Sasaki Meetup & Social Hawaii (SMASH)

The worst thing about paradise is trying to figure out what to do…

What should you do in Heaven on Earth?

There are many, many things to do in Hawaii

but most of them fall into one or more of three categories.

Just as advertised

Hawaii abounds with OUTDOOR activities for everyone

It should be no surprise that Hawaii is filled with things to do for every type of person year-round.  We got you covered!

Some transcend their surroundings

PURPOSEFUL activities can happen regardless of the environment

Whether eating, networking, dancing, learning, filmmaking, or something else, making friends or more than friends, Hawaii is an ideal place to do anything.

this is for the homebodies

There are tons of things to do for those who like to stay INDOORS

Too much sun?  Afraid to show some skin?  Not into physical activity?  No problem.  Hawaii is full of indoor activities that happen elsewhere in the world

Be Part of a group where your friendship, by itself, is valued

Through the many experiences of his short life, Terry Sasaki has learned the hard way, the meaning & value of true friendship.

True friends stick together through thick & thin.  While very rare, here, true friendship is offered & also cherished.

Stefanie Allen enjoying herself in Switzerland

WHY DO WE CARE AT SMASH?

During the Thanksgiving of 2022, our friend Stefanie Allen committed suicide. Her last text to Terry Sasaki when going on a trip to Switzerland with full plans to kill herself was “See you when I get back.” While it was obvious she was not doing well, she gave no obvious sign to her friends that she was going to kill herself.

Stefanie Allen, M.S., BCBA, LBA, & “all but dissertation” doctorate candidate, was a gem of a person who gave her life to care for those with autism & other learning disorders. Sasaki’s first impression of Stef, as her friends called her, was her calling out other white people who were using the “N-word” in a karaoke song. She got a lot of flack from that with race shaming (“you shouldn’t complain because you aren’t black”), but still stood her ground.

Stef again heroically called out another person, John, for deliberately avoiding telling his romantic contacts about his herpes exposure/status. Again, she & Sasaki who defended her, faced criticism & mockery. Yet, Stef still stood tall by filing a police report (22-345561 on 9/6/22) in case victims came forward.

Despite alerting Meetup organizers (such as Marcus Bass of the New Friends in the 808 & Monessa “Melani” Miranda) as well as Meetup.com, they defended & condoned John’s behavior by kicking Sasaki off Meetup to shut him up, coming up with fabricated reasons.

Unfortunately, the pressure of past relationships (such as a federal agent ex-boyfriend who harassed her) as well as her mounting medical debts & failing physical condition was too much for her. And she, always thinking of others, decided to end her life instead of ask others for help.

Last texts from Stef Allen

However, if you or someone you know are experiencing an emergency/crisis, or feel like hurting yourself, themselves, or others, call 911 immediatelyIf you are facing a mental health crisis, there is help available. For example, you can call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week The Lifeline @ 988, for a live person to speak to for FREE.  You can even text them or call them *67 988 anonymously.

You can contact SMASH or Sasaki as well. We can connect you with local resources which may be available.  You can also come to some of our events. Our Dancing Lessons, such as Salsa, are perfect for stress relief & mood improvement.  There is no pressure & we will not get into your business. Just come to a place where you will not be judged regardless of age, race, sex, etc.

You can also read this article which explains some of the issues you might be dealing with & how to cope. Whether with us or someone else, find help…connect with someone. You matter.
